If you’re looking for an adventure race in the wild and rugged mountains of Idaho (with the occasional touch of Wyoming thrown in), then look no further! With the Tetons as your backdrop, the Teton Ogre is guaranteed to challenge even the toughest ogres, from beginners to experts. We are part of these awesome race series:

  • Rocky Mountain Adventure Series: A race series throughout the Rockies aimed at bringing more people into the great sport of Adventure Racing and promoting all of the races in the region. Teams that race multiple RMAS events will accumulate points that can win them the Championship title and free entry to 2025 RMAS races!
  • USARA Regional Qualifier: We are one of just ten races around the country that will earn the winners a free spot at the 2023 USARA Nationals in Vermont this fall. Nationals is already sold out, so this could be your ticket!
  • Adventure Racing World Series North American Series: The ARWS North America Circuit is a collection of the best mid-distance adventure races in the Northern America region. (Canada, USA and Mexico.) Participating teams can earn points toward their North American rankings.

Race Details

Get ready for an awesome adventure race in the wilds of Eastern Idaho!

We will have two courses in 2024, a 9-hour which will include mountain biking and on-foot travel, and a 24-hour which will include mountain biking, on-foot travel, and pack rafting.

RACE DATE AND LOCATION

June 8-9, 2024. Swan Valley, Idaho

TEAM CATEGORIES

9hr: 2-person coed, 2-person male, 2-person female, solo male, solo female, NEW: 3 or 4-person coed, NEW: 3 or 4-person open
24hr (SOLD OUT): 2-person coed, 2-person male, 2-person female, 3 or 4-person coed (premier category!), 3 or 4-person open

COURSE DISCIPLINES

9-hour: Mountain Biking, Trekking, and navigation.
24-hour: Mountain Biking, Trekking, Pack Rafting (class I-II and flat water), and navigation.

APPROXIMATE COURSE DISTANCES (subject to change)

9hr: 20-35 miles biking, 4-6 miles on-foot
24hr: 30-55 miles biking, 12-16 miles on-foot, 10 miles packrafting

Note: We typically send out a rough course outline about a week before the race, to help with your race prep and packing. Any other course-specific information will be given to you at race check-in.

Last day to Register is Sunday, May 26th, and you must register by May 23rd in order to get a race t-shirt!

6:45am-7:30am: Map pick up, check-in, and team photos

LODGING and CAMPING INFO

Ample dispersed camping will be available at the race start and check-in location. If you prefer other accommodations, look for places to stay in Swan Valley or Irwin, Idaho.

RACE RULES

-Final rankings will be as follows: A) Teams will be ranked by total number of points acquired. B) Teams will be ranked by fastest time. C) Teams not obtaining all mandatory CPs will be unranked, regardless of time.

-All CPs are worth 10 points each unless otherwise specified. There will be a combination of mandatory and optional CPs

-Teammates must stay within 50 meters of each other at all times.

-Racers must cross the finish line before the cut-off time or will be penalized by 2 points per minute for the first 20 minutes. Racers finishing more than 20 minutes late will be unranked. (In other words, don’t be late!)

-Time penalty for a miss-punched CP (i.e., CP is punched in the wrong box) is 10 minutes per infraction. Pay attention when punching!

-If a team member must leave the course early, they must do so at a manned CP or TA and inform a race official. Please do not go home early without letting us know!

-Make sure you have all required gear at all times. Random gear checks may be performed throughout the course. Time penalty for not having required gear is 15 minutes for individual gear and 30 minutes for team gear.

-You will be traveling in bear country.  Knowledge of bear country safety and etiquette is required.  Bear spray must be easily accessible on the outside of your pack. Please review this website for some bear safety tips:  Bear Safety

-No E-Bikes allowed

-Bikers must yield to horses and hikers.

-No outside assistance allowed. This is a non-supported race.

-NO biking off-trail! If you need to travel with your bike off-trail, you must get off your bike and walk.

-Bib numbers are to be pinned to backpacks and visible, one per person.

-No traveling on private property allowed. Close any gates that you open.

-We will be practicing Leave No Trace ethics.  Pack out everything you bring in!  Please tread lightly and be aware that this is bear country.  We would be so psyched if when we swept the course we found ZERO trash!

-In the case of snow or mud (a large probability), please be considerate to avoid trail damage.  Please walk bikes through deep mud to avoid rutting up the trails.

-No navigation devices that utilize satellites are allowed! No GPS or using your cell phone for anything other than taking pictures or in an absolute emergency. Aside from magnetic bike odometers and barometric altimeters, no devices that display distance, speed, or altitude are permitted.

-Please no dogs on the course (exceptions may be made if you want to bring your pet Ogre).

> 2 months before the race date we are able to offer a 75% refund.

1-2 months prior to the race date we are able to offer a 50% refund.

3-4 weeks prior to the race date we are able to offer a 25% refund.

Less than 3 weeks prior to the race, no refund is available. We apologize for any inconvenience but at this point, we have paid for all race expenses and have been planning on you attending.

Entries are non-transferable less than 2 weeks prior to race day.
