This is where the first snow of the season starts to collect and lasts late into the spring. The trailhead is about a mile west of Big Springs and works its way east to the edge of the Yellowstone National Park boundary before paralleling the Montana border back to the north and dropping into the Big Springs Loop about a half-mile north of Big Springs. Although the trail riding accommodates all skill levels, the off-trail riding is for more experienced mountain riders. When it comes to deep powder, Black Canyon is geographically situated to collect the snow. With the large area, there are plenty of play areas for everyone.
