Targhee Creek Trail is a 12.4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Island Park, Idaho that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, horses, and mountain biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This trail has a bit of a split personality: the first few miles are a pleasant, family-friendly stroll through forests, meadows, and wildflowers that doesn’t stray far from Targhee Creek. After the first unbridged stream crossing, it starts to gain elevation and quickly climbs right up to the Continental Divide Trail at 9000 feet. The area is known to be a wildlife hangout, including grizzlies and moose, so be prepared and practice basic wildlife caution.
